Gameboy Disassembley

One of my classmates gave me an old Game Boy Color, and I want to custom-paint it metalliac silver and dark grey, sort of like the DS. I have gotten all the screws out, but there's just one thing keeping me from opening the case... The screen is stuck to the front of the case.

How can I remove the screen from the case without screwing it up?

And this sounds like a long shot (it might not even be possible), but is there anywhere to put LEDs in the GBC to light the screen? I'm just sick and tired of the Worm Light. It probably can't be done, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

take the front plastic thingy and pop it out?

The gameboy pocket dissasembly was easy. There were just a few screws on the board, and the screen came right off.

Tell me how the back light idea works. It would be really sweet to finally use it in the dark.

There is a mod like this for Texas Instruments calculators, look at www.ticalc.org for the mod, some guy used plexiglass and yellow LEDs to add a backlight to his calculator, but you can use white LEDs, just make sure you get power directly from the power switch because then it'll turn on with the system. And add a switch to turn it on and off, like the SP.

The screen in stuf with small amount of glue. Just pull at the top of the ribbon connector, and the foam on the back should rip upwards, revealing that the ribbon cable is folded. Just pull it at the folded point, and it should come off no problem.

yeah its vary gummy glue just pull it gently and it will come right off

OK so I pulled the top of the ribbon cable down, and ripped the foam. When I get to the bottom of the screen, where the ribbon cable is wider, I just carefully pull up on the cable and the screen will come out?

Sorry if I'm asking the same questions again; I just don't want to wreck anything.

I'm also interested in adding white led's to my Gameboy Color for backlighting. Has anyone seen this mod anywhere on the net? You would think at least one person out there has done this.

How is it coming along, bicostp?

I would try it to my GBC, but I'm getting a GBA from my friend soon and don't want to waste LEDs. I assume it would be fairly easy, just open the light box and stick in some LEDs. If there is no light box, then matte plexiglass and LEDs must be used! I would also get them shaved if you're doing a mod such as this, where light distribution is of the utmost importance.
