Nes problem with removing expansion port

Post by minkster »

Yeah...umm I ended up buying Ben's book on hacking video game consoles, and I read every chapter before making a nes console portable including the soldering/desoldering section. Well it turns out that while I desoldered the expansion port which isn't needed, and sucked out most of the solder in each of the holes. Then I took out pliers to yank the thing off, but unfortunatley I think I stripped one of the traces causing it to peel up quite a bit. Is there anything I could do, or do I hafta buy another Nes and try it all over again  I'm pretty sure its trashed for good, but I just am hoping for the slightest hope for it to live  Heres a pic of the stripped trace Image

You might be in luck if the other end of that trace goes directly to one of the near-middle pins of the cartridge slot. If not, trace the trace to where it stopped ripping up and jump it with a wire. It should work like new!

Oh boy! It does go down to a middle pin  I remember Ben saying something about the nes cartridges not using some of the pins in the middle. I just hope its the right one
EDIT: It is the right one :D I checked with a cartridge where it didnt have the pins. So what do I do with the bent up trace? Should I just cut it to make it shorter instead of sticking up?

You should trim it, and forget about it.

You will never miss it, heck you already removed the expansion port anyway!
