LCD <-> VGA
Im looking for a way of hooking up small LCD screens to a VGA output from a computer? Where can I get specs on the VGA output and LCD controllers?

The PSOne and Verge 5 inch screens have RGB input. With a program called PowerStrip you can "tweak" your video cards refresh settings to work on the PSone/Verge. It takes a little work, but its do-able. Also, im sure the screen can only do 640x480. I dont remember if 800x600 works. Every other resoloution doesnt.

If for some reason your computer/video card doesn't output Csync (the only sync type accepted by the PSOne and Verge screens), you need to build a sync convertor. Schematics for it can be found here. Any other screens probably don't take RGB, so you will have to move to composite (which is much lower quality) and you will need some sort of commercial convertor that will convert VGA or DVI to composite. VGA ones cost about $100, and DVI ones can be had from Apple for about $20 (because a DVI connector naturally outputs VGA and composite along with the DVI).
I was more thinking along the lines of interfacing VGA to those tiny portable screens (such as those used in cars for example). Those things have RCA (composite?) inputs and Im unsure how to go about converting VGA to that - is it doable. Also, on Ebay one can pick up "raw" LCD panels - Im assuming one needs some sort of controller to work with those.
I guess the main thing is find out where to dig up info on this kind of stuff?

It would help to know the LCD you want to use beforehand, a PSOne LCD has superb quality and is cheap. If you want to connect it to VGA, it is fairly simple. It can usually be run without any extra devices, just a few wires between the VGA connector and the screen decoder board itself.
If you REALLY want a VGA to composite (it is horrible in terms of quality, though better than RF), then you want a commercial adapter. There is no simple or cheap way to build one and you'd kill yourself trying. VGA to composite is about $100, just go to your local computer store and tell them what you want. I highly suggest the PSOne screen though, it supports RGB, the same type of high-quality video as a VGA monitor, just requires an extra piece of software.
