Something very weird.....(need lot-o-help)
I powere my psone screen today (with the wall adapter) and there is no light coming to the tube. I dont know if the screen works because i have nothing hooked up to it. The weird thing tho, is that the power thing at the top of the screen makes a wierd sound. (like a dentist drill) and then the occasional static sound. It also smells like its burning a bit. I know that the tube is getting power because the lightbox is warm, also the 7805's work sooooo...... Is it just because my tube is burned out or is my screen seriously retarted?

"Living After Midnight"
so the tube doesn't light up and the thing at the top is making a wierd noise. the thing at the top is the transformer that powers the light so it either broke or is malfunctioning to give the tube too much voltage so it burnt out. did you try testing it when it's open and find out where the burning smell is coming from? maybe you could do the LED mod to replace the tube and transformer. another thing that might have happened is a fuse blew and you could jump it, i don't know how to tell the difference between bad fuses and good fuses but see if there's a fuse for the backlight.
a way to test it without a video source is press the volume/brightness buttons and see if you can see the gaugeMotoman wrote:I dont know if the screen works because i have nothing hooked up to it

The continuality setting on a multimeter. It should show either "OPEN", "CLOSED", or "SHORT". Sometimes those are abbreviated, but you can tell what it is. "CLOSED" sometimes shows as a "0" or blank screen, but it means that the no current is flowing between the contacts. "OPEN" and "SHORT" both mean that there is a current flowing from one contact to the other. Just put the contacts on opposite solder points(when the power is off), and wwatch your multimeter.daguuy wrote:i don't know how to tell the difference between bad fuses and good fuses
