2 lead tact switches?

Hello,

I've cracked into an old vcr. I found some cool tact switches, however they only seem to have 2 leads, not 4. Will these work with my 2600 project? THanks.

All mine that I salvaged from VCR's are like that. Now I prefer them over the 4 lead kind. 2 leads are easier to design button layouts on PCB

Why would there be 4 points? To connect to things together at once? I haven't seen 'em before.

Yeah, Ben's book says that if you connect any two adjacent leads of a tact switch, it won't work as a switch and the circuit will be "stuck on." I'm no expert in tact switches, but how could this happen if the tact switch works?

If I understand what you are asking correctly, this connection would make the switch "normally closed" where the 2 points are connected unless the button is pressed. This isn't as common, but does have its uses, like if you want to reset something, just use it to cut the power for a second. Most switches, especially for what you'd want on a portable, are normally open, where the points are connected when the button is pressed.

That's not what I meant, but it does raise an interesting point. If the tact switch has NO and NC leads, what is the fourth lead for?

They go straight across. Left and right are NO, and up and down are NC.
