Grounding Issues

I am using the first generation SNES and was going to ground it through the negative spot of the two DC Jack holes. Well When testing continuity on the system the lower one showed ground, which contradicted with the image in the book and i was wondering if i was missing something completely in my logic or the DC plugs are different in design between the two which i dont think is the case

im sure the DC plugs are the same i would just do as the book says

I'm sure they most likely are but the whole thing just baffels me. And I'm wondering if it was a Nintendo thing.
