PSOne LCD image problems, VGA not RCA

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

PSOne LCD image problems, VGA not RCA

Post by quietas »

I've done a few of these now, previously I seemed to have bought PAL units from Ebay now I have two that I think are NTSC. I have two LCD's bought from different people but both are the identical models with the identical results, niether works right. Here's a pic of what's happening.

Image

ATI Radeon 7000 PCI connected to the LCD, I know the card works with a monitor, and it worked with my old PAL LCD fine. My cables I've tried have the DCC cable and Windows sees the monitor fine. Here's the powerstrip settings.

Code: Select all

PowerStrip timing parameters:
640x480=640,24,96,40,480,10,2,33,12750,312

Generic timing details for 640x480:
HFP=24 HSW=96 HBP=40 kHz=16 VFP=10 VSW=2 VBP=33 Hz=30

Linux modeline parameters:
"640x480" 12.750 640 664 760 800 480 490 492 525 interlace +hsync +vsync
Any ideas what is happening? I can get the image to come up at 256 colors, overlapping, quartered, halved, or otherwise, but the screwed up image is what snaps in to fill the screen perfectly.

EDIT: Oops, had the wrong pstrip settings pasted.

Does that card output Csync or just H/V sync? If it doesn't output Csync, you need to build a sync convertor (don't have the exact details, know it uses a NOR gate IC) to combine the 2 sync signals into something the screen can use.

Then I have no clue. It really looks like you have a sync problem though…
