when I first thought of a magazine for the first 5 seconds, I thought the idea was kinda dumb, to be honest. However, with some support, I think a newsletter of some kind would be pretty cool. I think online would be best, though, but maybe somebody would want to make a printed version. :)

If this goes through, I could be an editor (maybe along with Lucretius, if he's interested... a lot of the mini mods stuff was done by both of us) and maybe even make up some kind of "portablizing tips" to give some basic suggestions.

Maybe this is a good way to make howtos and document info about mods and portablizing systems without having people take a lot of time out of their lives.

Gamelver needs to finish his howto, we can make it's whole 28 pages one of the issues, by itself.

I think It shold be a yearly thing. At the end of the year take the best portables. Such as great design, Firsts of a kind, and extreme innovation. Also when new products hit the market report them such as Noac and famiclones. Great deals as the 128 bit systems go by the wayside. Also step by step instructions on lesser used systems and mods. Also this would give time to write all the articles at leisure. so one person doesn't have to write the Majority of it.

that is a great idea, but i couldn't wait that much time.maybe if we publish it once every um idon't know ,three months .it could have those same features-but obviously not yearly-then at the end of the year,we'll pick the best things in our issues, and put it in that yearly issue

How about quarterly?

Or every other month?

I think every 2-3 months would be best, personally :)

It doesent matter we dont have to have a set time we could just do it whenever we have enough articles to fill it. But whos gonna print it will it be in black and white or in color and who is gonna ship it? I cant print it I have a brother mfc and that thing goes through ink cartridges after like 30 color prints. Here is a link to a mock up of a page minus all that white space at the bottom. http://img348.imageshack.us/img348/7269/expage7un.png

Well the cover will probably be the only significant amount of color.
No color borders or extravegant picture, but there could be some. And to save on ink cartridges copy them at a kinkos. It is probably afordable enough maybe 10-15 bucks a copy but hey without big printing equiptment nothing would be cheap.

Well if we charge a subscription fee of $2 per issue or $10-$20 a year I think we would make enough to afford the printig costs assuming were using printer paper for the insides and a glossy sheat for the front and back cover we also could have a few companies that supply parts for what we make pay for advertising space. which would allow us to sell the issues for cheaper.

This is my Cover idea its not top quality I still need to learn all the tricks of Photoshop
But I tried to make it a little cleaner so it doesn't have to be changed too much for each issue

I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings here, but a printed magazine won't happen, unless one of our members has connections to a publishing company, because nobody has what we need to print a real magazine. This should start as a web-zine, and if it does good, and we get some connections, then it could hit the racks. I also agree that we don't have enough active members for monthly issues, and annually issues would be too spaced out. I agree with the people who said bi-monthly or quarterly issues would be best. We definitely have enough members who know HTML/PHP/flash to put together a good looking magazine, and we have lots of information and content to go in.

If we do get this up on the web, everybody should go to their local video game stores(EB Games, GameStop, etc.) and ask if we could post an ad for a great new web-zine. And if they say no, we stick some on their magazine rack when they aren't looking.

I don't think we are looking for it to hit the racks, at least I wasn't thinking that, but kind of like a school newspaper, use kinkos to make copies and sell them to anyone at the forum who wants one. And for new members to get out some major information so that no one needs to ask on the forum again.

That is pointless, because we are the ones contributing to it, and nobody wants to pay for something they helped create. We would be better to have a web-zine, or even an e-zine, because then it's completely free.
