maaaaaan if i were a mini mod, this thread would have been closed like 4 pages ago (mainly because if i were a mini mod, then the entire discussion would be moot by now).

in all honesty, i like the idea of mini mods. it definitely spreads out the power on the board and helps keep everyone in check. i think i've mentioned before that a wiki is probably the ideal form of message board on the internet, but that's obviously not feasible in this situation without a major overhaul on the board's code.
however, i'm glad that all the current admins/mods (excepting ben who never posts anyway) have expressed support for this idea. if they were to continue to hold the power they have while adding mini-mods, i would pretty much write the whole thing off as a bunch of silly teenagers trying to get mod status on a message board (which can get pretty ridiculous at times). there is no doubt in my mind that the proposal probably still boils down to that at its core, but if we eliminate entirely the current mod system (leaving ben and perhaps gannon as admin, of course), the silly teenage power politics at play here could actually be beneficial to the forum.

this is all.

Ok then...yours is a cynical veiw on life.

I originally started work on Mini-mods as a way of helping Spongebuell. Now though, I am, in all honesty, trying to better our forums. I don't really care what other members opinions on our motives are. It would be nice if they supported us. My current concern is that of the mods, that we may work to make this a welcoming and helpful community. That they do not loose sight of that in their new found powers. "Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutley". Beware of this my friends.

We a trying to achieve a better fashion for these forums. If this means I will not be a mod, so be it. I just want to help. I just want BenHeck to be something remembered as one of the few boards, one of the few communities that really made us pround to be online.

Past that, I just want to help all of you. All of our members and guests. And that we are still able to keep a running help center for those inspired by what Ben has achieved and wish to follow in his wake. Every project finished helps us better understand this craft. Every mistake helps us learn. And a strong supportive community aids the learning process.

Let us build a strong community. Let us learn!

Now if you'll excuse me, it's 3:30, and I'm tired.

Edit:
This is my 1000th post. What a way to write it.

Thanks to all the people who made it possible:

I wouldn't call my views on life cynical. Its just that I've been going to online forums a lot, and if there is one thing I've learned, its that secretly, everyone wants to be a mod. It's their own piece of power, it's a symbol of status, a badge that they have been at these forums longer than you and they have something to show for it. It's the exact same reason newbs post stupid crap to inflate their post count.

That said, I don't want anyone to think that I don't think the mini-mods should be put into place. Like you said, Luc, power corrupts. I've got a better grasp on that concept than you probably realize (go back through the thread on music piracy; I subscribe to an anarchist school of thought). If there have to be any power structures on the boards, I think that the power needs to be spread out as much as possible, and short of creating a wiki or making everyone a mod on every board (ideas that I'm sure will not be implemented), mini mods are the best way to achieve this.

So basically, regardless of motives or intentions, however childish or selfish they may or may not be, this is a good idea.
