Do old phones like that even work now, I didn't think they could handle area codes now, so I don't think it would be possible i may be wrong. :?

Why was it that once I saw the title of the thread I though of the rotary cell phone that Gil from the Simpsons had. If you dont remember the episode it was one in which Homer buys a car.

As for making one like that I'd say take the machanics of the system, and see about reducing the size. That phone looks like it would make the phone be the size of the handheld radios from the Viet Nam war otherwise.

Pulse tone phones rock! I remember my Grandma's old one.

also, for dial tones you could use the brown box thingy from radio shack.

it was used on radial phones when touch toned phones just came out. it was this little box with a speaker and buttons that would make sounds so you could navigate touch tone menus

My phone is cool because I can set it for pulse tone, and it goes through all the clicks for every number.
