ea sports tv-game

Post by Reaperman@home »

I just picked up the single-player version of the EA sports game for $4 (goodwill) and I was wondering if they were a true Goac with cartridge possibilities? For some reason they're not often talked about in the forum. There must be a reason.

I was also wondering if (since the rom chip is generally pried off the radica goac) there's a chance it could be easily replaced with NVRam.
Because nobody really wants to pay for a games.

If the genesis has a standard way of dealing with S-Ram, this system might prove quite useful. But I'm nowhere near an expert on them--I haven't even opened it yet.

the EA one isnt made by Radica, so no ones bothered with it, I'd suggest opening the EA one, and seeing if the boards are similar.

here's what it looks like:

It's a 3 blob board, I have no idea what's what, but the I'm guessing we're looking at quite yet, but I'd guess that the big one's a goac, middle one's the rom and small one (might) be sram--I'm completely making that all up. There's nothing to pry off. The traces have solder points on them and (at least the majority) appear outside of the glop.

The backside of this unit is just a cluster of caps and two xtals.

I've never really researched the radica, but it seems a lot easier to do--with the ability to pry romchips off.

a side note: This unit has handy controlls on separate boards on each side. (see pic) They're about to hit goodwills en masse, so they might be an easy unit to borrow controls from instead of scratchbuilding with tact switches. The D-pad feels very nice, buttons are okay.

also, player2 control leads are VERY obvious, there's no benefit to buying the two-player unit.

Are the pinholes at the top the p2 pins?

And the Radica only has the GOAC-glop and the daughterboard-rom-glop.

yep, that's p2 at the top (which is actually the bottom edge of the unit)--it least I'm 99% sure those are for player 2. what else would be marked off in a different color and have exactly 9 pins?

how many leads am I supposed to be looking for? 60?
I have a real good feeling about that center one.

edit: the two smaller glops are linked very heavily on the other side of the board.

The problem being is that there is no room to solder. Like on the Radica, the daughterboard has the spacing for soldering on wires.

I just bought one of these. There is room for soldering, but you would have to use really small solid wire. Some of the traces are even marked with the same pin names as on a genny cartridge.

Perhaps we could join efforts Reaper, to get this thing figured out. Do you have AIM?

What are those holes for above the left glop top in the picture? Maybe it's flashable?

I'm pretty sure they are the second player controls.

g-force, I don't really have any IM services. And actually I pretty well let the thing sit after the pictures, I haven't even bothered to put it back together. (I was planning on stealing those rather useful looking control boards, though). If you put your finger on the middle glop, and flip the board over, that's where I'm guessing your cart slot goes. How many pins am I looking for?

(I think I should take a picture of this side of the board...)

edit: you're farther than I thought...okay I'll head to your topic...:

I just picked up this thing, It has Madden 95 and NHL 95 correct? If so, good, I have the same thing. I Noticed 3 glops. Im looking on the traces, Seein where that battery is connected. If I am not mistaken, that battery powers the chip to save games. By following that pin, it should lead back to the glop with the games. Then from there, Gotta find some pins for the cart (if there are all of them. I didnt get to look at it too long, but I noticed it was pretty simple. Main board, controller parts LABELED, 2 wires for power, and then the power switch.
