Battery pack/screen problems

Post by sunjayc_99 »

Hi, this is the first time I've done anything like this. I used directions from this one website that is now gone... but that's beside the point. My pn64 won't turn on with the battery pack I have created. Also, the screen's backlight won't turn on. Can someone help me? The screen is a Zenith flat screen LCD etc. that runs on 12v. The N64 is an NUS-001 and I'm running it off of an 8AA pack and a 2AA pack.

are you using rechargables? they're 1.2v and can't power the 3.3v line. 3v is pretty low for it as it is. BTW, what's the website that's gone now?

no prob. 8 AAs is probably too low for the backlight so hopefully 10 will work . 3 AAs will probably get the 3.3v line working too :)

That should definitely work, because that will give you 12V and 3.6V.

Now I have another problem with the power source... When I hook the n64 up to the N64 AC adapter, it starts up after a few seconds. When I hook it up to MY power source, it takes a few minutes.

What are you using for a power source now?

10AA rechargables for the N64+screen and 3AA rechargables for the N64.

Update: It takes a few minutes every time I switch the power source (i.e. when I unplug the battery packs and stick in the AC adapter or vice-versa).

you probably aren't gonna be switching between batteries and wall power so it shouldn't be a problem :)

another update: got a different problem now. When I measure the voltages of the battery paks, They show 13v and 4v (I'm using two separate paks instead of a convertor). But after I turn on the N64, they drop to 8v and 3.4v. Now the 3.4v isn't a problem, but the 8v is. My dad also borrowed a multimeter and we tested the current. It was drawing 6 amps!!!! So do I need a current regulator or something? :?

yeah a regulator is a better idea than separate battery packs
