The one you'll want to use is the top one. It's the one with th mobo you can hack down to the 3"x4" size (I think that's the dimensions).

Standard four switch Atari 2600 (top) can be cut down to make a 4x4 inch square. The bottem one is the Atari Jounior, that however can be made portable. Go the the How-to thread that is stickied and read the (early) how-to that Ben wrote.

Long story short: Atari made several different models of the 2600, trying to squeeze as much as they can out of it. The major ones are (in chron. order)

Heavy Sixer (AKA big sexy)
Light Sixer
4-switcher
Vader (black front 4-switcher)
Atari Jr.
