BSD made easy?

Yeah I know it sounds odd. Though I must admitt this has to be the easiest Unix-like OS I've tried out.

The OS is called PC-BSD, and they took the super stability of FreeBSD 5.4 and added things to help out people that are not computer wizes. For startes they added a GUI installer, much less intimidating then pure text. They also have made a custom package management system (.pbi), which I think is easier then even RPM and YaST.

I installed PC-BSD on my spare hard drive just this morning. Quick and easy install, its however every spartan in default applications. If you want Open Office, Gaim, Gimp, ect. you have to download and install them yourself (but thats easy).

I know I'm sounding like a salesman or some thing but I just thing its great that there is now a Unix-like OS that can get comeplete novices to come over. I have only one thing to add that I think is a problem: no live version. I know without a hard disk you kind of run out of ram fast but hey if you can try and install it, go for it.

I've been using SuSE 9.1 for about 6 months. I couldnt get Mplayer installed, Gaim (reason I havent been on lately) and generally I'm tired of it. I've considered replacing SuSE with Slackware 10.1. Though I have to say downloading a single file, not having to compile the program is a lot more comforting. Besides I've wanted to try out FreeBSD for long time now and this is the closest I got, aside form FreeSBIE.
