My laptop
Ok....my mom got a laptop from the school...(all staff does) and well she doesnt use it anymore, so i put all my music on it to dj and stuff. Well its slow and for some reason i cant hook it to my internet or a network. I want to upgrade it, somehow, any suggestions.

Run Damn Small Linux on it, it's only about 50MB. That way you have more space for MP3s! 
It keeps trying to get to the old school network because that's how it's set up. Did you try going under the Network and Ethernet Adaptor properties windows to see if itr tries to look for a server? Did you try running the Internet Setup Wizard again?
Try releasing and renewing thew IP address if it's running Windows 2000.

You can download Damn Small Linux as a Live CD (it boots off the disc and doesn't touch the hard drive art all). That way you can get used to Linux and the controls for it without screwing anything up!

to put is simpley you must setup is to work with your type of internet connecton and probubley defragment the hdd sence that is probubley causeing the slow down I dout you are the type to want Linux its good but its not for everyboady
