Which board is it on? Explain with the pictures from doomportables in the GameCube section. By the way, here is my concept for a handheld GameCube.
It would be a little thicker than the controller bezel on an unmodified GameCube (which would hold the controller and memory card slots at the top of the unit). The logo on top of the disc cover would be modified and would serve as the disc cover in the portable. The thing on the back below the disc is heat sink for the motherboard. It would have to be extended because the processors would not reach it in that position. I am also investigating cheap liquid cooling systems for computers that might work in this case. The controller would have the same innards and buttons as an original GameCube controller, but be a vacuum-formed copy built into the case (the portion of the case directly above the controller would be very thin, only containing a small portion of the speakers) with the Z button above the connection and the L/R buttons below. The screen would be a PSOne screen connected via RGB from the DAV out. A Toslink port would be added to the back along with the 2 AV outs (just because it can be done). A D-pad (from any Nintendo system) will hold the controls for brightness and contrast. The original buttons for power, reset and eject will be used as what they are in the portable. Best part: like an original GameCube, the front will be purple but the back will be made of clear polycarbonate, just like the first controllers you could buy. Finally, it would be powered by 16 of the lithium-polymer batteries that Gamelver used in his portable, 4 banks of 4 for a total of 14.4v, 8.8Ah.

woah...that looks almost exactly like my first design for my GCp .....I'd advise against that layout, though...it's gonna be real top-heavy, unfortunately (I tested it with some duct tape )....that's why I eventually ended up just having a horizontal layout rather than a vertical one

This is not a final design, but I like it because it preserves the original feel of the controller, the thing I really like about the GameCube. The PS2 controller has a grip meant for having one finger for the L buttons and another for the R buttons. The feel of the Xbox controller is the same as the feel of a balloon. The SNES and NES are great in the sense that they don't have so many buttons that they need ergonomics, and the N64 is fine because very few games use the D-Pad or the L button anyway. The only Nintendo control system I can't STAND is the DS. Games are meant to be played with buttons, not touch. I could see this being a success if it were used sparingly (drawing perhaps?) but as a full-time control system, it sucks.
I suppose I could put the top half of the controller above the portable and the bottom half below, but it seems strange anyway.
