fried controller?

Post by Postal »

I think I fried controller 1. When I try out the buttons, only the two rightmost buttons work. Problem is, they are both registering as up. Is there anyway I can rewire the second controller PCB to work as the first. I'm guessing I might be able to just replace what's under the black glop. I already have it so that the second controller can work using a regular NES controller. Is my idea of using the original second controller PCB just wishful thinking or might it actually work? I'm just trying to salvage my SJ. Thanks.

No, I had them wired correctly. I don't mean they don't work on the controller, I mean they don't work when I use a wire to "press" the buttons. One end touching ground, the other touching the copper for the buttons. I know it's not working because i was able to "press" the buttons initially and now I can't using a piece of wire.

why do you connect the copper for the button with gnd I thought there are these spots of copper were both connections for the buttons are so you would just have to bridge it.

hmm... normally the only way to get the a/b buttons to work as up is to reverse p/s & clock or maybe fry the p/s or clock line.

I had a similar problem with my SNESp. The controller I had wired in there DID work fine, then I tried it again later and the only button that functioned was B and it did different things in different game(ie mario world B was start, in all-start it was A and right, and X3 it was nothing). Reason, no clue, I just replaced the controller and now everything works fine. I wasn't the wiring as it was working before, and i wired up the new one just the same. The controller broke when I used my SGB(super gameboy) on the SNESp. I was getting no sound(as GB is in mono and the PS1 screen is set in stereo) so that may have screwed something up, either way I'm not trying the SGB on there any more.

That all depends on what revision of the main board inside the super joy you have :)

I had the same problem, I fried my P1 controller glop thing.

I used the Player 2 contrller glop ad it wokred fine. Figuring out the pinout was a female of the dog species though! Anyways, if you can get a pic of the Player 2 glop I can tell you what traces are what (assuming the controller is the same as mine) :)

Never mind, I found a pic in my hard drive cave (spelunking is fun! :D )

Image
Starting from the space on the top left, going right:
Start, B, Turbo, A, White (5V), Brown (Gnd), Orange (Latch), Red (Clock), Yellow (Data), Left, Up, Right, Down, Select.

Hope this can help you out :)
