Seperate Voltages

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Seperate Voltages

Post by demonofaj »

Im working on a portable using a Sega Genesis. But my LCD has a weird function, it has no on and off switch. To turn it on, plug in the battery and to turn it off, remove the battery. If anyone has any suggestions on how to sync the Genesis and the LCD into one power switch it would help thanks. Its annoying to plug in a battery just to turn on a portable.

Use either a DPDT, or use the same power source for both the screen and system.

DPDT is a switch that can switch 2 lines at once. you can usually find them in old computers or computer parts or a store

Use the edit button. You don't need to make a new post about making a typo. Do a Google image search for DPDT. There are 2 rows of 3 pins:

Code: Select all

| | |
1 2 3
4 5 6
| | |
Pin#: - Connected to
1 - Genesis (positive power in)
2 - Battery for Genesis (positive)
3 - NOT CONNECTED
4 - Screen (positive power in)
5 - Battery for Screen (positive)
6 - NOT CONNECTED

Connect the screen ground to the screen's battery's ground. Do the same with the Genesis and it's battery's ground.

hhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm............................ that's wierd, the ones i found have 4 terminals but i guess they do the same thing... if you have a busted N64 (it's the only one i know the most about but there are probably others) it's power switch can switch 4 lines at once

If it is for charging the battery while the genesis and screen are off, connect the possitive to pin 3 if it is to charge the genesis, and pin 6 if it is to charge the screen.
