Concept Project: NESTV

(Note: Please don't complain about the pictures, they are only 19K and 12K respectively. It isn't like I'm loading high-res bitmaps.)

I have always looked around my local Goodwill for video game systems and any kind of LCD that could be turned into a TV. Today, though, I found this.

This is a nine inch color TV, made by Emerson (9 Inch Portable Color Television TC0918), that will run off of either normal AC or 12V DC for a car. It has a normal 75 Ohm Coaxial input (though Rabbit Ears can be used with an adapter). It cost $10 US and works perfectly, right down to the remote's batteries. I was pondering what to do with it when I noticed something about the TV's handle...

Yes, that is an SMB3 cart. It fits perfectly. I am now seriously considering placing an NES inside this TV. ^^

If the original motherboard for the NES can't be crammed in there, I may spring for an NOAC and shield it heavily before putting it inside.

What do you guys think?

nice idea but where will you put the controlls just ports? or make it look like a acarde machine

Looks like that would work.

Maybe you could put the NES controller ports on the sides of the unit. (Or make your own controllers with RadioShack parts and D-Sub connections.

)

Looks like it'd work fine. The only problem would be seeing if there's clearance for the nes around the tube. I think in any case you'd need to solder in a new cart port, then you wouldn't be limited as far as where you could put the nes mobo.

I wonder if you'd need shielding that close to the tube...

speaking of the tube--make sure it's not on its way out before you start. It'd be a shame to do all that work just to have a goodwill TV let you down within the year.

Also, don't turn it on at least a day before you open it. Those things will pack an electrical punch that'll knock yer socks off!

Don't worry, I've been properly trained in discharging CRTs.

I'd expect 25,000-30,000 V out of this CRT, since it's color.

). I remember some guy tried to do this before with a black and white TV, but didn't succeed. I think theres a link on that classicgaming NESP site (Tighe's site?).

Yeah, sorry about the pic. I'm too cheap for a good digital camera. I got that one for $5 at the same Goodwill as I got the TV. ^^*

i was thinking about this and tv are dangerous be careful....always have the case on when plugged in

I'm well aware of the dangers of working with Cathode Ray Tubes, so don't worry. ^^

Though for anyone out there who isn't, don't do it. You could EASILY be killed.

How old is this TV, Gannon? Mines like a '98 or '99 Sanyo, think itd have the pins as well?
