Because it's a PSP? :P Did you get your PSP when it first came out? I have heard error reports of dead pixels out of the box, and not playing games within the first week. Call Sony and try to get a new one with the warranty.

Did you buy a warentee? Because if you did that seems like a very good reason to send it in to Sony.

i got it for free from a friend who broke it, the power button broke off somehow so i installed a tactile pushbutton switch on it and it worked fine. i bought 2 games for it, thug 2 and dynasty warriors they are both awsome games. i also modified it so it can take normal size mem sticks and i added a bigger speaker and stuff so i can have more and better sound for my music.

the psp laser and motor to spin the discs wont even start up. ill pobably just sell it on ebay and buy a brand new one.

Is there a lid switch on the PSP? From what you said it sounds like that could be problem. Try replacing it if there is one.

personally, tha wouldn't be smart, and since you already modded your psp the warrenty is voided, so your on your own, but when your friend gave it to you, you should have just sent it to sony

Or wait for the UMD rips to be playable from the memory stick. It could save battery life.

I've never worked with or on a psp, but my advice is to make sure you have no blown fuses. For example, the psx has a series of fuses which i noticed one must be almost entirely for the laser assembly, which would make sense. Because it's probably the only thing using that 3.3 volts.
