After noticing that we had used 2 pages of another thread, I decided to make a new thread for HackThisSite.org members. If you have never been to HTS, I suggest you try out their hacking challenges. My first question is who here is a member there?

Me, username is sysadmin_root. (I have an alternate gmail account of sysadmin.root@gmail.com, great for social engineering!) I started this morning, and ive done levels 1 to 8 of the basic web thing. (I dont know php so I cant go any further...)

You don't need to know PHP for missions 9 and 10

. Mission 9 is the same as 8, just in a different directory, and mission 10 is javascript(10 is easier than some of the ones before it).

EDIT: Just looked at your profile, and I guess you haven't done mission 8 either. Just look up SSI and the UNIX command "ls".

What do you have to do for the application challenges? I know that you have to brute-force(I'm guessing with C&A) it at some point, but I don't get it.

If only I still had my ZIP/RAR password cracker.

BTW Noob, have you tried realistic missions 4 and 5?

So far:
Finished Basic Missions
Upto 4 on realistic missions (I no you need to learn SQL but thats about it. They need more moderate missions)
Upto to 5 on application missions (1-4 all you need is wordpad and a hex editor)

Try skipping realistic 4 and doing 5. There is one important hint on one of the pages, and with Google(not a search), you can easily figure out how to get the password.

Why am I the only person using the same name for both sites? I guess both sam and Noob were already taken.

Thanks for the bit on ssi, I knew about server side includes, but I couldnt get a directory listing working. I googled ssi and quickly found a nice piece of code that did the trick.

Yay, just finished lvl 10 with the help of a cookie editor for ff. These are addictive. Now on to more challenges.

Noob, I told you that 5 was easy. After finding the encrypted password, i decrypted it in about 2 seconds with Cain & Abel. I'm glad that you agree about the addictivity of these missions.
