I would think an older low-res unit might be a good option.

I'm not sure if it how it would do stereo without that $5 usb option and some software that I suspect is free somewhere.
with that and a backpack, I'd venture to say you can have a portable, darn-near-anything.

remember those old vests that used to 'kick' you in the chest in time to music or (iirc) in reaction to n64 rumble. One of those could be easily modified.
