hmm, you could make your own... or hack slackware or archlinux, so it has an mp3 player app, then write some scripts and such to make it play automatically, and link the forward and back controlls to up and down or left and right, this is for an old junk pc I assume?

I did this back in the day with DOS. If the audio card you intend to use is fully DOS compatable and capable (ie ISA based), I'll dig through my bookmarks and see if I can refind the programs to playback MP3s.

Ok, you should have at the very least looked at the site. The Movix distros (emovix, movix movix2) all come with Mplayer (which supports mp3) and they have nice documentation about how to make a playlist and make the this work. This means you can install it to the hard drive or use a CD/DVD that will auto boot for you.
Just take a look.

Everything is written in bash for those things. I'd say until you learn bash dont do anything to them as bash is a ridiculously hard language to learn.
As I said before the emovix isnt that bad. On the left they have link to a documention page. They tell you about the distro, whats in it, how to make one that contains your A/V files.
