Any word on what voltage the new PS2 takes?

Anyone? Gamestop told me that if I preordered I could get one on October 12th!!!!! It's tempting...

now, that 8.5V is either for a ldo 7808, or more hopefully just a 7805

It probably only needs 5A for a HD addon, not for regular use. Or so Ive been told.

Just because the psu is 5A doesn't mean that the new ps2 will need 5A

Still sounds like a lot of power. The PSOne came with a 2A adaptor, but only draws 800mA. And 5.3A is a strange number; why list that if it doesn't need it all?

With electronics the draw can increase. For a sysem like the PS2 it can increase dramaticly when the system is loading the files in to ram, the DVD-rom is hardly effecint as it uses a powerful laser and atleat two motors.

As for the PSOne AC adapter the reasoning behind it I think is it would need enough to run the Screen and System not jus the system. The PS2 though it will be funny if they built that into the adapter, I just dont think Sony would think like that. After all they left out the HDD for the new design.

Ah,, thanks guys. 5 amps... BULL! The original PS2 only took 1.5 or 2 (can't quite recall) You gotta remember, this stuff is all WAY over-engineered (like a 2 amp adapter for the PSone?)

8.5 volts... I wonder if this gets internally regulated down to 7? Still, it's a lot less than 12!

hm...... Gamestop is getting these on the 12th if you pre-order. Perhaps I should...

Go Ben! Yeah, I think you could tackle that Ben

The battery power isn't too much of a probelm if you go down the li-poly route. I got a couple li-poly batteries cheap off ebay that are 7.2v 6amps. Theyre tremendously thin and compact (2 3.7v cells) and 2 of them would certainly be a decent battery life on the new ps2. Then again, I know how Ben likes to make his systems with the battery compartments built in. I just use plug in battery packs to cut size and weight.
