What screen for DC?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

What screen for DC?

Post by Revelation »

Hey guys,

I just ordered a second Dreamcast system that I will hopefully be making into a semi-portable console. Basically right now all i'm doing is attaching a screen to the Dreamcast. I'm just wondering what you all would recommend for a screen. I want one that is cheap (around or under $50) and also easy to hookup to the DC (no modding, other than maybe some adaptors).

Here's what i'm looking at right now.. i'd like to find a cheaper one: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... =G202-1000

Also, how would be the best way to power the DC in the car? I can get a simple adaptor that let's me plug the ac cord right into the lighter but it cost around $30... any suggestions?

Thanks!

for testing.. a good bet is just a TV till you can make a battry.. but when you are looking for the final screen for the console. get a PSone or a hipgear screen. there are pleanty of usfull guides around for it if you are wondering about how to make it. the PSone screen is your best bet. its pritty cheap some places and its a good size screen for a DCp good luck :D

If its going to be semi-portable I think your talking about it being something like the Treamcast. If thats right, a PSone screen if best. Although you can use a screen that uses 12v as well. Depends on what your real needs are and how heavey you're willing to let it get.

Thanks for the information.

Yes, by semi-portable I mean like the Treamcast. How much should I pay for a PSone screen? I found several on ebay but I don't want to overpay. Also, in order to hook the PSone screen and the DC up what adapters do I need?
A saw a post in anther thread that said the only adapters I'll need are the 2 below?

Yeah I think that those parts should work. Be aware that you may have to take the screen apart as about half of the screens need you to connect a wire from power to pin 12. If it does need you to do that modification you might as well just do a direct connect from the Dreamcast to the PSone screen.

As for the price I've heard as low as $30 and I wouldnt pay more then $50.
