Mod Chips

Post by elixirnova »

Is it worth it to chance screwing up your console? Or go for a method such as the PS2 Swap Magic Boot Disk and the PSX Book Disk?

Especially since nowdays it takes around 20+wires to install...

its not realy nessasery to buy the swap magic disks to use the swap methade

if you dont know what your doing its a bad idea to try cause ps2 modchip installs are some of the hardest type of sodering there is where the gamecube and xbox are pretty EZ

if you do know what your doing not realy woth spend $70+ for something you can do for free but a little more convenient

though a mod I am kinda working on now may interest you

According to Peppers in many threads, talk of Warez isn't allowed.

And modchips take the system's bios and change them.
Sony's copyrighted bios.

So modchips = warez.

not really. modchips typically either trick the existing chip, or replace the bios all together. Those that are replacements can be flashed with a variety of bios images. Some made by legal means, some by other means.

even if somebody decided to modify the original bios image instead of starting from scratch, I think tampering with copy written material for personal use is well within a light gray area of legality.

to get back on topic, I say no. Nothing that can be done to a PS2 is really worth the effort. xbox mods on the other hand are cheap and useful.

The chip is leagal, but modified original BIOS software (like EvoX for Xbox) is illegal, but stuff homemade (like Cromwell for Xbox) is leagal, I guess?

Here's my view:

-Modchips that temporarily patch the BIOS code are legal, because they do not sell copyrighted material on the chip itself.

-Modchips that replace the BIOS with a complete patched copy of the BIOS are illegal because the companies are selling copyrighted code without consent of the copyright holder.

:? Well it makes sense to me... :?
