Kits

Post by Sparkfist »

I was writting a reply to a member (name escapes me right now). At the time it didnt strike me a anything big but thinking if over it might be a good idea.

Gannon is setting up a starter kit for people to get all the basics (look at he site gannon.tk). I was thinking if people are consired about this whole thing (portables) moving slow why not make a kit that contains all the thing to make your own (save for the console) Now I know that things like the ones typicly done, so I was thinking of the radica, Flashback 2.0 and the C64 (when ever someone makes one). Their simple and a good place to start from.

What do you guys think?

Speak of the devil, I was going to go to the center of town tomorrow and get a c64, and see if i can do anything with it. I need to find a small (emphasis on small) keyboard, and I'll make it portable.

can usb be made to work on the c64?(I believe those are USB, right?) Are the clock and data lines the same thing in a different plug?

hmmm.....an N64 kit wouldn't be too hard...you could supply everything except the console, screen, and batteries....I bet I could whip one up if I really wanted to :)...but if I'm ever gonna sell anything portable related, it's probably gonna be pre-made N64ps ;)...
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Im pretty sure a usb to serial thing would work. You know, those little adaptors that come free with keyboards.

Well i can wire up the PS/2 connection on my C64DVT and use the USB > PS/2 adapter I have and see if a USB connection will work.

As for the size of the keyboard. The closest thing I found that would work is that keyboad sony controller. However I think that only uses the Playstation controller port and so would be uselss. Otherwise I was thinking of a laptop one (about 12" across), or if someone knows how to build one I was thinking that would be possible with those puch button switched Ben uses.

There are those fold-up PDA ones, most use IR signals, but I've heard of there being USB ones.

I was under the impression that the itype 2 keyboard was a separate USB keyboard--and that the unit plugged into both the USB and joystick port. but I'll figure it out tonight. local game shop has pleanty (for more money than I'd really like to pay).

the hard part about the c64dtv kit is portable storage.
our only good option is compact flash through the floppy connector. It'd probably only cost $30 to get it going, but I don't know how the software side deals with it. pal version is to support 2mb onboard flash...if it ever comes out.
