Make sure CD-ROM is before Harddrive in your BIOS for booting
Did you use the Make disk from ISO (Image) option?

yeah and it didn't boot off the disc.

Then I used the "boot" option but it said "Unknown boot block" or something along those lines.

"Do'h! The only problem was that I had "Finalize CD" turned off!

I have DSL booting now on my old "Craptop", as I like to call it. (It's a Micron TransPort Trek 2 with a 300mhz P2 in it if you wanted to know.)

I thought that may have been the problem. That is one of the most common mistakes.

Well let me just say this: Damn Small Linux is a lot better than Windows!

No viruses, spyware, adware, IE exploits, nothing like that at all!

It's very easy to use (I managed to get around in it no problem). About the only thing I haven't figured out is how to play the PacMan game that is included in it.

I'll try Knoppix (and maybe SuSE) later.

Yeah, I've downloaded the Mac versions of games before.

I hate it when that happens.

At least now I know I didn't waste an hour downloading 2 versions of something that I couldn't use.

roblem with DSL is that it doesn't have built-in updating, or so I've read, which means you have to constantly download the updates.

Thats not too bad. An update comes about every 6-10 weeks. And if you have your system setup in say frugal you can simply replace the boot partition and install the new one. I would suggest backing up your settings before hand.

skip linux and get free BSD or open BSD. Linux is based off of UNIX and BSD is UNIX.

Linux is acculally a clone it contains no code taken from the UNIX kernel. BSD is now considered UNIX-like, as it has under gone extensive changed and no longer holds to the standard that is condidered UNIX.

For the record it has been said that Linux is much easier to learn on.

I would suggest BSD however as it lacks many things for user friendly interface (i.e. Graphical installer) I cant. Linux distros as far as it compares to BSD distrobutions are better for learning.

Also I kind of hate OpenBSD after that who thing with its creator saying Linux is trash.

Okay, better solution. Get a mac. You'll have a great GUI, power of UNIX, user friendliness unmatched, and security putting windows to shame (although that isn't too hard).

Yeah, I have used Macs for years!!! I have used my SE/30 since it was new, and I have had no less than 75 macs over the years. (my dad used to be able to get comps on loan from work.

) But the newest system I used is Mac OS 8, so I'm not up to date on Mac OSX or anything. (besides I don't think I'll spend any money on a new comp any time soon.

Yeah, this is my first mac. Doing all my graphics and programming stuff I was tired of getting the BSoD multiple times every day. I was either going to get a IBM ThinkPad and stick linux on it or a G4 iBook because I was soon to be in college. Thinking about how many used ThinkPads my bro went through in college (and that apple started a deal of get a notebook and a iPod and get a $200 mail in rebate) I decided to do with the iBook. Dunno how I ever survived windoze.
