Nintendo won't die, or go the way of SEGA for one obvious reason.
THEY ACTUALLY MAKE MONEY! *gasps* Yeah, unlike Sony and Microsoft who only boast about sales numbers, Nintendo actually makes what's called profit. PS2 costs over 200$ to produce, as does Xbox, but yet each go for about 150. Where's the profit? Tell me, cus I don't see that adding up. Gamecube now loses money, but not much in comparison to PS2 and Xbox. GCN's cost about 130 to manufacture each, but sell for 99. When you add up the rest of their profits from GBA, GBA SP, DS, and Software you can easily see they pull in enough to compensate. I won't even get into PSP cus I know that costs more than 250 to produce.
But thats just this generation, lets take a look at next gen. Microsoft and Sony's systems will probably each need about 500 or 600 dollars per system to manufacture, but yet they're selling for 300, 400 dollars. The profit is long since gone. Microsoft doesn't need to worry much, but Sony already has some debts. Nintendo is making their system only a couple times more powerful then Gamecube and leaving HD out, this means they can sell their system for cheap and still make a freakin profit. Not to mention what they'll still make off of GBA, SP, DS, and Software. If anything the next generation could cause the video game market to crash again because no profits on either Microsoft or Sony's side.
And just to throw this in aswell, Sony and Microsoft and their fanboys are always screaming about sales, OMG Playstation 2 sells more than any other console or whatever. They're both freakin wrong. Nintendo outsells both Microsoft and Sony on system sales. GBA alone sells more than both systems, and with DS and Gamecube thrown in there Nintendo is easily selling twice as many systems.
It's obvious that Nintendo won't die any time soon, nor will Microsoft pull out just because they have Windows to back them out. But Sony might just have to leave because of their own problems (Lack of profits, debt, Dual Shock lawsuit)
Buying a next-gen console? Im not (warning big post)

I plan on getting an xbox 360 on release day. Why? for one game: oblivion, my brother can have his halo 3, but I have been fully addicted to the elderscrolls games since daggerfall. I also may get a revolution, for the new zelda and mario titles sure to appear on it, and a few other classic lines. and for pc, when I finally do my "big" upgrade that I have been trying to do for over 2 years, I want spore.

Since microsoft thinks they're gonna sell a billion xbox 360s means microsoft is going to order in bulk and get a real good price on all the parts. Though they could lose money on the console and make money on the games, but everyone would have to buy 4 or 5 games just to break even... All I know is that these next gen things are too expensive for my tastes...
