Agreed. In fact, who is to say it can't be modified into a removable controller with 16 buttons? the 4 side buttons could be shoulder buttons anyway. ^^
Besides, I think it was intended to work like a phone pad, which people often used. It would actually have been a smart way to bring new people into the group. Give them an input format that looks familiar, rather than the potentially confusing joysticks.

O.o Mine worked fine once I got used to them...
By the way, since we use a phone in a different way than our parents did as kids, the controller would be less easy to use. (They used one hand to hold, and their other hand's index to dial, while we dial with the thumb of the hand holding the phone. This evolutionary growth had threatened the Intellivision with extinction. ^^*)

ok im agreeing with sparkfist its probably an arcade system. im guessing something that isnt usually standalone. neogeo mvs comes to mind(i know everyon keeps saying that theres already a neo portable but it doesnt count, its not a neogeo). cps2 is another possibility probably the most likely one. i however am hoping that he pulls a 360 and does something like a totally awesome like a naomi portable.

Maybe he is portabalizing a Coleco ADAM - but then he could just portabalize the Colecovision and leave all the unnecessary PC stuff out.
Maybe it is an Odyssey 2. I think that thing took 12V.
Or maybe a Vectrex (now nobody would try to portabalize this). However, it is B&W, so that wouldn't require a PSONE screen...
