soung plug pinouts?

Post by daguuy »

i'm making a normal headphone sized headphone adapter for my sterio that has a huge plug. i cut out a headphone plug from a broken laptop docking bay and i was about to solder wires to it but then i realized i didn't know which wire went where. i can find out all i need if you can tell me which one of these is ground:

according to my detective [Napolean Dynomite voice]skills[/Napolean Dynomite voice], it's A. on mono plugs, B and C are combined together and A is the same. on sterio, B and C are separate so they must be the audio signal. i found a big mono plug so i don't need the separate L and R so yeah. [/useless rant] yay for answering my own question!

A is Right
B is Left
C is Ground

EDIT: Some headphones come with those adaptors.
