DIGITAL (Ben's Rant)

Post by warbaby »

I went over to that movie review site that Ben has some affiliation to, and I read his rants.

[quote]Benjamin J. Heckendorn's
Entertainment Rant of the Week

For the week of June 13, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This week I’m complaining about:

Digital TV / Cable / Music

(WARNING: This article contains a lot of techno-babble talk and some rough language leveled at technology)

Digital TV is crap! Digital Cable is crap! Digital Music is CRAP! DVD’s are OK though!

We have reached a sad impasse in this world. People are accepting entertainment (TV, movies, music) of crap quality simply because a magical word has been placed in front of it.

Digital!

I hate to break it to everyone, but almost every “digitalâ€

I still wonder why they chose to use MPEG2 as the codec for HDTV. I mean, it's like really old now, and the quality isn't very good. They should've chose something MPEG4 based. With MPEG4, they could've used the same amount of bandwidth and have significantly higher quality. Sometimes I wonder about the people who make this stuff....

I thought the American dream was to have one more poker channel than your fellow neighbor, guess I was wrong. Or was I?

I went over to a friend's house and they had "Digital" Cable. The simpsons was on, and it looked like an mpeg1 I downloaded off of the net. Not only that, but it was supposedly running at 480p IN A BOX so that you had this nice black border that would occasionally display the little whats on thing. This was even one of those HUGE TVs that had HD and DVI and alll that jazz. Even the on demand content looked like something I downloaded off of the internet and ran in a low quality Quicktime window. We changed the channel and found something that looked better. But it was nothing I'd watch. I have DTV and I have way better pictue than this Digital Cable. My neighbor's TV with 5 channels worth watching looks better.

I don't really care, the only TV shows I ever watch is the simpsons and the occasional family guy on my pocket TV. And you can just guess what kind of quality that looks like

and this guy hates nintendo for not jumping on the HDTV wagon.. I think the message he sould be putting out is... all that crap is meaningless, the simple thing missing from media is creditable content. (reason why i wont by a PS2 x-box or Cube)

when people are ezly swayed by flash and aw and no content (action comedys, and chris tucker) they don't get any content, just a blur of images strung to gether with some sound. thats pritty much all they get, no gratifacation, lesson, theme or sense of purpose. just WOW WE WIZ, or GE Dawg, DA Shiet iz tight. some meaningless dictated popculture refrances grabs at your wallet and sends you home with no fill... People are stupid, but anlog or digital, the media is not the message.

"I dont have cable" "oh, You have Sattilite!" "No" "Then what do you have?" "Antenna I get 5 channels with a high definition of static"

All I watch is DVD. I watch:
Dr.Who
Monty Python's Flying Circus

I never noticed bad compression, and I watched Ghost light on my Toshiba Laptop.

I have standard cable, no HBO or anything. I watch a lot of DVDs (not at the moment, as the player here in my bedroom is broken [and I dont leave my room much, lieing on the couch in the living room puts me to sleep faster than lieing in my bed]). I got Ren & Stimpy Seasons 1 & 2 yesterday, a female of the dog species' series.

I get basic extended cable. (no HBO, CineMax, etc... but I get TCM, The History Channel, etc... Comcast is a pain to deal with... [/ramble]) I bought a TV tuner card for my PC last summer, and I just record TV shows and movies on it. :D (South Park, Today (yes I watch the Today Show), most of the Adult Swim non-anime shows, etc... OfficeSpace and the South Park movie are hilarious.)

Heh. Pretty much the only thing I watch on Adult Swim now is the anime...Family Guy is just reruns...until soon . And then there's...everything else.

There is Aqua Teen though! YAY ATHF...

I hate how Cartoon Network sucks. I can say the number of shows worth watching on one hand, maybe a slightly open second.

ATHF - Its alright, I own Volume three, which has all thats worth watching of the second season. The first season is good, the third is BS.

Justice League Unlimited - Its okay, doesnt come close to some of the other DC superhero shows of the 70s 80s and early 90s.

Zatch Bell - Really the only good anime (that is new/relatively new) on right now. I remember two summers ago the anime premiers were awesome, there were like 5 premiers in those three months, most of it being pretty good. The lack of weekday Toonami has really totally killed Cartoon Network these days, there's no point turning CN on until 10:30 at night, which leads to the next member of the list.

Dragon Ball Z - Showing from the beginning, finally that GT crap is gone, and we're back to seeing the beginning sagas of DBZ. Now if only theyd put on DB, and show its awesome intro clip and music.

There we go, four shows. Four F-ing shows.

CN really needs to show a new Gundam, SEED sucks, but for some reason its still shown on Fridays at 2 am (its held that slot for like 6 months). I'd like to see Z Gundam, which I had planned on buying at one point. Aside from that, Cowboy Bebop, which premiered three and a half years ago with its 26 episodes, always finds its way back on to the Adult Swim schedule every now and then, why dont they put on some other old-AS show? I wouldnt mind seeing something like Pilot Candidate again.

Four shows. Thats two hours out of the 168 hours in a week, and an hour of that (42 minutes of it actually, because of damned comercials) isnt even new. And so this rant ends.

Samurai Champloo is pretty sweet IMO.

Candidate for Goddess wouldnt be too bad if they showed it unedited..I've actually never seen it myself. I was hoping they'd take a chance and show Azumanga Daioh on Miguzi...I mean it would be a little bit edgy for that block but it really is heartwarming (sort of, lol)
