GBA SP Brightness & Contrast

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

GBA SP Brightness & Contrast

Post by nos_slived »

HEY! HEY! EVERYBODY!!

So, my friend was showing me his SP today, and something has recently gone wrong. The brightness and contrast appear to be somewhat off. All the colours have suddenly started appearing washed up and dull, and if you're supposed to have black portions on the screen, it comes out blue.

So my question, has anybody else had this problem, and does anyone know how to fix this?

i know the problem with your GBASP: in the year 2011, a tofu engineer in sector 37 of the tofu factory lost his nickel. the nickel fell down the sewer and ran into a cosmic ray traveling at 1/1000th of a mile per hour slower than the speed of light. the cosmic ray then deflected of the nickel and hit a stick of dynomite laying on the floor in just the right spot that it blew up, giving just enough energy to the cosmic ray to make it go faster than the speed of light so it ripped a hole in the space time continueum where a donkey just happened to be eating a fly. the donkey and the fly fell in the hole and fused together to make a fly sized donkey. the cosmic ray then ripped another hole and the donkey fly flew out and landed on the penny. then the two holes fused together to make a black hole that sent the donkey fly back in time to the present. the donkey fly landed in the CPU of your GBASP and messed everything up. the way to fix it is donkey fly repellent

PS: that's really wierd. the only other things i can thing of is metal junk getting in it somehow and shorting things out or maybe your battery's dead. my GBC went in the washing machine and still works so it water seeping in probably isn't the problem

It isn't mine, it is my friends, and he said nothing got in it. He took it out yesterday, turned it on, and it was like that. I also wanted to know if the SP's display comes from a board for the LCD, or from the mobo.

BTW: I love that story.

Im pretty sure there's a petentiometer inside the gba that controls contrast. Try adjusting that. :)

Is this with the frontlight on... or off?

Seeing as nobody except HK has offered any suggestions, and I can't get his SP open right now (because stupid EB people didn't even know what a tristar screwdriver was!), I am going to try calling Nintendo for some help. I am wonderring if the number to call would be the one you call when you need a new NES cart slot from them. I think it was either Jack or Spongey that posted it once before, but I can't find it right now. Any ideas?

Just found their customer service number: 1-800-255-3700. I think Goodie was the one the posted it.

Friggin' Goodie, I read that bottom note after reaching over, grabbing my DS, and squinting to read the number.

actualy after playing fire emblem on my DS and then trying to play it on my SP the colors look weird and it looks a littel blurry, i think its cause the DS has a different screen(?) and or can show more colors and the new fire emblem uses this. not sure tho but it just looks better on my DS than my SP. *note* i havnt used my SP for about 3 months so mabey its dying with age and from not being used...

if you're comparing your SP to your DS you might just be noticing the difference a backlit screen makes.

frontlit screens, like the SP's wash out severely--but you don't notice it once you've gotten used to it. If I recall the DS screens are backlit, which wouldn't wash out.

When I upgraded my GBA with the afterburner kit, I was cursing at its washed out colors for a week. then I just stopped noticing. Everything is slightly blue on my afterburner, but it's most obvious in the blacks.

once the GBM comes out, I can finally stop complaining.

I called yesterday, and they said to send for repairs, but it will be almost $80. I wish I could get it open so I can check fr a contrast pot. I will send Nintendo an email later, but I don't really care. I'm just going to scam WalMart on Monday.
