Handheld Game System Rant
Ok, I bought my DS on Christmas. It's surprising how many people wanted them, They were sold out at every store in my city and I had to go to Ebay to get one. You think with this kind of sales Nintendo would be ready and willing to get as many games and utilities out there as fast as possible, but instead they seem to have decided to condemn the system to be a very expensive paper weight.
I guess you could attribute the lack of new games out for the DS to the change in power at Nintendo. The old executive apparently died and the man that was put in his place apparently hates the DS. I mean, instead of working off a great system that was already in place and has sold a large quantity he has decided to remake a new GBA.
Now don’t get me started on the games. Nintendo wanted to get away from the kiddy games but then they decided to come out with ‘Nintendogs’. I mean the last thing I want to play is a dog simulator. I’m sure it might be fun to play for a bit but after a while it’s got to get boring.
One of the main reasons why I wanted a DS was for Metroid, but here it is 10 months after the release and the game still isn’t out. I seriously hope it’s as good as it looks because it’s about the only game that will save this already dieing system. Animal Crossing might be able to keep the system airborne for a few more months but I’m going to have to say it's going the way of the Dreamcast.
Now I’m going to start on the PSP, what I probably should have waited for instead of the DS. Its smaller, has a larger screen and so far can play some very good games… but there are some things they could have done better. The screen problems you would have to live in a cave to have not known about, and not to mention the sticky buttons have lowered my overall love of the system.
The advertising for the PSP was at any rate total crap, talk about misleading. You would have to already know what the system was to even grasp the commercials and to be blunt where I live it took a week before I even saw the commercial on TV.
It seems that Sony’s USB capabilities have in the end screwed them over royally, only 3 months after the system has been released someone’s created a emulator for the SNES to run it. Don’t get me wrong; the SNES Emu has been the best thing to happen to the PSP since it came out. It now has a practical use and a good library of games that are actually good.
It seems that the DS got a great system with hardly any problems at all but crap for games where as the PSP is a technical nightmare with a great… but small selection of games. In the end I’m disappointed in both systems and feel that they both have great potential as paper weights… just kidding, but if the developers got off their buts and made a few portable games instead of focusing on console games there might just bee some good content out there right now.
I can only see the PSP and DS and even the GBA-M getting shoved to the back seat as we get closer and closer to the release of the Xbox-360, PS3 and Revolution.

not to mention Bomberman, Splinter Cell, Nanostray, Sonic rush, ELEKTROPLANKTON!!!!, Mario and Luigi 2, NEW SUPER MARIO BROS YEY!!!, Lost in the Blue DS, Lunar dragon song DS, Trauma Center: under the knife, Snow board kids DS, Advanvce wars DS, NINTENDOGS!!!!!, Black and white DS!!!!!!!!, Shogun Empires DS..... (gasp! pant!) air!! too much talking!! (passed out)...........................( finally concious) Wow that is a lot of good games.
(thats gamelver)well, the title says it all!!!....anyway, today I bought that Kirby game for DS and it's awesome!!! it only uses the stylus and it's really, really fun !!!! I also tried Goldeneye: Rogue Agent for DS (my friend has that game) and while it's definitely not as good as Goldeneye for N64, it's still pretty fun . I personally love the stylus control...and the fact that you can play multiplayer with just one cart is brilliant . in the fall, there's gonna be even MORE good games!!!(well, they should be good ) anyway, Animal Crossing, Castlevania, Metroid, Super Mario Kart are the biggest ones I can think of...sure, 3/4 of the games I just mentioned are still classic Nintendo franchises, but that doesn't stop them from being great games!! I personally can't wait for Castlevania myself ....
Edit: if at all possible, try not to mention the PSP.....unless it's an unbiased comment on it, then it doesn't belong in this thread!!!....I just don't want to see any damn arguing ....
Hardly any games my ass
Note: Splinter cell is coming out (creepy voice) "7 dayssss"

Not where I am, I havn't seen a DS or PSP commercial besides the first 2 since they were released, and the only DS commercial in the past month is the one with the guy blowing up stuff on the salad bar.
I was talking about how disapointed I am on how many games are out now. I'm sure there are gonna be games out in a bit but most are gonna be out in the fall.
I do really wish for the DS and PSP to take off as amazing systems it's just they have been kind of weak so far.

The only PSP commercial I've seen is for Hitch on PSP (or DVD). Boy, that sure makes me want to buy a PSP.
I haven't seen any DS commercials, but then again I don't watch much G4 or TV aimed at (ahem) younger people. Maybe Nintendo should become a corporate sponsor for Charlie Rose.
That commercial for Hitch leads to another weakness with the PSP - using a proprietary format for movie watching. Yeah, this keeps the PSP small, but Sony should've learned their lesson with Betamax, MiniDisc, MemoryStick...

I too just got Kirby canvas curse and I don't know why nintendo can't just make a few more Stylus only addictive games. Castlevania looks interesting because it will probably play like SOTN with anime looking characters. I wasn't able to play Animal Double Crossing yet, but the DS version should sell well. The list of good and ok games for DS is actually quite good. As for me, I can only count about 4 or 5 PSP games, so that is becoming my xmas present. (or should I splurge on an MVS, SUPERGUN, and a C64 monitor?)

I got a DS, but I'm too fixed on buying other non-DS things that I only have SM64DS, its good, Kirby and others also look awesome.

Only time will tell on how good things will get, and Reaperman, each store got about 5-10 units, and Nintendo seriously underestimated the demand. Atleast it wasn't as bad as trying to get my Final Fantasy 11: CoP expantion. I preordered it, shipping date came and the storage yard that they were keeping all the copys in down in florida got demolished by a Hurricane.

It's kind of ridiculous that we now have 3 systems which are technologically identical. The GBP was, indeed, a smaller version of the GBO. But its screen refreshed faster than the GBO's. Then the GBC came along, which introduced color (another major step forward.)
But now we have the GBA, the GBASP, and now the GBM, all of which play the SAME games with little to no innovation over the last. I mean, aside from getting a frontlight, and getting so small it might need a "do not eat" label on it, there is no differnce between the 3 GBA systems.
(And yes, dog simulators get boring fairly quickly. I have played the PC game Dogz, and it gets tiresome pretty quickly.)

I just think it's odd that every retail outlet got 1-2 demo units and only 5-10 systems. I have a feeling those numbers are pretty close to correct.
it's likely that at least 20% of DS units are store demos.
I will eventually get one (once it dies and games are cheap) but it reminds me too much of N64. I won't elaborate too much, but I really hated that system like no other. (as always my pm box is available for all your flaming needs)
Likely I will buy it for the famicom/advance wars game. Even though they're all the same, I'm a sucker for those.
