Another good idea is to NOT DO IT, and find some pictures of it online by some idiot who DID DO IT...

It's much cooler to see it happen than to see a pic of it after it's done "popping".

And volts are what do the damage. Its just like a fire hose, its not the water or volume that will hurt its the pressure at which its coming out.
No, current does damage, voltage just hurts.
Something high voltage will sting like heck, but something of high current will burn.
Right, Amps causes death. And Amps is the Current.

Yeah, that's right. Camera flashes are high votage, but they don't require much current. It can't, really... if it did, the battery wouldn't last more than 1 or 2 flashes!

Yep. Standard DSL runs at 1.5 Mbps, while Cable (mine, anyway) runs at 6 Mbps. Both, of course being much faster than dial-up, which usually runs at 56 Kbps.

Edit: Also, as far as I know, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) and ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) are the exact same thing.

That was one of the only projects my friends Electronics 9 class did. They put the transformer circuit in a box wrapped in tinfoil. Once it was off, and I still got zapped.

As for microwaves, stick a fork in the school microwave and run like hell.

There is no 'standard' DSL. The are, however, two types, ADSL and SDSL. The first stands for AsynchronousDSL, meaning the download speed is different (usually faster) than the upload speed. For example, I have 3Mb ADSL. The 3Mb/s is the download speed, my upload speed is only 768 Kb/s, still a lot faster than dialup, so it's all good. SDSL is SynchronousDSL, meaning the download and upload speeds are the same. So 3Mb SDSL would be 3Mb/s up and 3Mb/s down, making it usually more expensive and sometimes only available to businesses, depending on the provider. All DSL comes in a variety of speeds, depending on how fast the ISP wants to let people go, and how far away they are from the DSLAM (the further you are, the slower your max speed is). The good thing though, is that it is constant bandwidth, it doesn't fluctuate like cable.
Cable, while usually purported to be faster than DSL, is a different story. First off, I've heard of companies getting 15Mb/s SDSL, which blows Electric Rain's cable out of the water. It all depends on the infrastructure the ISP has installed and how fast they're willing to let users go. Back to cable, theoretically speaking, if you're on a spoke of your ISP's connection all by yourself, cable is generally much faster than consumer DSL, usually between 3-6 Mb/s. The catch is, as soon as you start putting other users on the same spoke, the bandwidth for each individual goes down. Cable uses what is called 'shared-bandwidth,' so the more concurrent users of the same connection, the slower it is for each person. My dad works with someone who telecommutes and uses cable. During the school year his connection is blazingly fast during the day. As soon as kids start getting home from school though, it slows down to around dialup speeds.
So, that has been my rant for today. In answer to the original question, cable can be faster than DSL, but if you know there's a lot of people in your area (about a half-mile radius of your house, unless you live in a really dense area) who have cable internet or are considering getting it, you're probably better off with DSL.

Something we have here in the UK I suppose, I'm sure it's faster, mine is 1.1mbps, I used to have Dial-Up, which indeed sucks.
