I'm not officially hanging my head in shame. I'm not too sure what I was thinking when I "Desoldered" this stuff from the board. Next, time I need to think & realize that I'm desoldering it for a reason & be a bit more carefull.
Any ideas what I can do with these? Are they useless now that there are missing pins? Can I steal a knob from my gameboy color? Help.
It looks like you took the pots of your screen. What screen are you using, and have you tried it without them? How many pins broke off? Pots can be bought cheap at any electrical store, and sometimes at Rat Shack, so they aren't really useful in other projects.
I'm using the ev-680. I went to radio shack last night, & they said they had nothing like what I showed them. Aren't those used for contrast & brightness? Are you saying I should bypass them?
Did you actually looks around for the pots? There are drawers or electronics stuff in the back of the store (not the back room, just in the shadows) I was at the local Radioshack, and one or two drawers had pots labelled on them.
Yeah, I looked in the "drawers" at the back. I couldn't find anything that looked real similar. Are they really just potentiometers, is there some particular size I should get?
Most Rat Shacks are useless for electrical stuff now-a-days. Do you have a multimeter or ohmeter? If not, get one. If you do, measure the resistance from the left pin to the centre pin, and turn the dial to find highest, lowest, and middle resistance, then measure resistance from the left pin to the right pin. If you can't get another pot with the same value as the highest that you measured, get something close.
