Working on my own nesp in a gbo...with multiplayer! =D

Post by Ramar »

Hiya folks,

I've been studying for months, buying parts and materials, oogling every bit of info i can get, and it is time...to build.

Alas, I did not bookmark all of the useful information I found!

Please, someone, help me in my quest! ;_;

I need:

pinouts on the gbo controller, (or a link to the thread that i saw them in)

pinouts for this here chip: Image
I know they're on ladyada's site, but i looked and she notes one too many, so i am lost u_u.

As for the multiplayer!

How many wires actually hook to the noac from the controller? I believe it to be 3 not including power; just clock, data, and latch, right? or does ground have to go to it also. I plan to bring the power straight from the batteries, for reasons i will tell later XD. will the noac recognize that the second controller is plugged in without having the power and ground connected to it (it being the noac)?

What are the exact pinouts for the noac, I need 2 player specified on it, ladyada's site just says 2nd controller something.

For clarification on the controller question, just in case: Yes, i know ground has to go back to the batteries. but will it also have to be sent back to the noac?

I really hope to be able to use a regular gbo link cable for this, only needing the 3 would be awesome :) Does someone have a gbo link cable to look at and tell me if it has all six metal pins, because i have a gbo to gbpocket link cable that only has four. couldn't use it =/.

Last question: does anyone know how to turn off four different wires with a single switch? :?

This shall be awesome. NOAC in a GBO case has been done before, but i'm having multiplayer action baby =D And a NES cart slot attatched by a 2 foot detachable cable, so you can put the cart in your pocket or something (rather than on the unit itself) ^^ got the idea from someone else's post, you may have credit if you stand forward XD

Thanks for all the help,
Ramar

And I will be making a detailed how-to guide for this project, and if everything goes smoothly, i'll make em for somewhere under a hundred for anyone who wants one.^^

5V
Video
Audio
Ground
Reset
P2 Data 3
P2 Data 2
P/S
P1 Data 1
P2 Data 1
P1 Clock
P2 Clock

I got this offa one of gannon's posts, but um...data 3? what now? O_O why does player 2 have an extra data? and what is P/S? and it IS possible to put 6v into the 5v, right? without frying it? cus isn't that what everyones been doing?

The extra data line is for things like the Zapper. I believe P/S is the same thing as Latch.

Okay, I've got the pinouts for the noac...but i still need

1.gbo link cable information

2. the pinouts for the epoxy on the super joy controller

3.the pinouts for the gbo controller

Come on peoples, three simple things that I'm sure SOMEONE could tell me ;_; I tried tracing the gbo pinout myself last night, and i am baffled! please, help me! ;_;

Noone at least has an old gbo link cable that they could look at? =/ It'd be really simple, i just need to know if it has 6 contacts on the inside...

Thanks,
Ramar ^^

Yes you need ground connected to P2 controller, other wise it would not work at all.
Last question: does anyone know how to turn off four different wires with a single switch? :?
Switch ground. Without ground the circuit will not operate.

Would that be me? :P

A lightgun uses two more wires than a normal controller, thats why there are extra spots on the NOAC for P2.

and it IS possible to put 6v into the 5v, right? without frying it? cus isn't that what everyones been doing?
No that could fry it. They were using 4 rechargeables at 1.2V which is 4.8V.

Theres a pinout, it's been confirmed that its correct. If you want to you can also use the P2 controller glop-thing for P1.

Heres the GBO pinout

Thanks for all the help G-Force!! :D

A few lil problems though:

And on the switches, i mean, i need a switch that turns all five lines on or off at once. they all do different things, so i can't combine them. they're not making a circuit the way you think ^^; i need one switch with two positions and 10 prongs i guess you could say.

When i'm hooking up the gbo controller though, there's three grounds on that epoxy chip. which ground does each one go to??

What kind of batteries are 1.2v? Ni-Cd? And actually, if you look at pics of the megajoyboy, they're definitely alkalines...

Thanks ^^ And actually, i figured out the pinouts for the super joy controller on my own! Woo! I'm finally getting the hang of this stuff ^^

One last peice of information i need from someone, how many pins are on a GBO link cable? ;_;

How do you know they are alkalines, just by looking at them?

Because, if you look really closely, they say "ALKALINE BATTERY" ^^

And whadda ya know, my girlfriend came in handy :) she happened to have a GBO link cable sitting around, so I don't need that anymore. Still need those last few problems solved! ^^

For the switch problem, couldn't you just tie all the grounds together and just have a switch all the grounds at once? I guess I need to know what it is you are switching.

Yeah they are alkalines, but Ladyada used 1.2V Ni-MH rechargeables on her Gamegrll thing and it worked fine. So you can use rechargeables.

basically, this is how it all works.

NES-4 lines(l,c,d,and gnd)connected to 2p on the NES-(mplayer port)
...|..................................................................................../
4 controller lines to 1p............................../-----------------/
...|................./-------4 controller lines-----/
Controller----/

Pretend the periods aren't there.

Okay, so the thing here is that when it is master, power to the nes will be on, and all four lines going to the mplayer port from controller will be off. I hope you can see why.

When it is slave, the NES's power will be cut, but the four lines going to the mplayer port from the contoller will be on.

I figured out what i need, i need a switch that has two positions, but has 15 pins.

Any help would be great,
Ramar

Get the red buttons out of an NES controller. They fit in the same holes as the GBO buttons. Gives it a bit more of an NES feel.

What's this?? An update??

I got off my lazy ass to update, and I bet a whole none of you will be slightly interested.

But I thought I did a rather nice job.

Who am I kidding, this should be done by now.

Anyways.

ImageThis is right after I first unsoldered the 60pin connector. I had to use medical tweezers and pull out every @#)@ing pin.

ImageCharred remains...

Image I attached the screen using the original lcd holder for the gbo. It's off center, but it holds it in there nicely and I don't have to deal with hot glue or anything.

Image

ImageYes I like Space Channel 5. Shush. Oh, and I figured out the adjust pin for brightness and contrast by accident =D.

That's all, and to anyone who actually was compelled to view these, thank G-Force for getting me off my lazy ass and back to work.

But it wasn't a rock! It was a rock...LOBSTER!

EDIT: The links are not broken, right click and click view image...sorry...freewebs sucks...
