Think of the whole thing as a learning experience. The worse cace scenario, you have a dead 2600, or a dead screen. If something DOES die, try and figure out what went wrong. With that infomation, you at least know what NOT to do next time. Dont be too carefull. A lot of times its like im doing brain surgery. I check and check, and check my stuff again, just to plug the power in backwards and fry something. Ive noticed when im too paranoid about f-ing up, i oversee something stupidly simple.
The older consoles are a bit hard to blow up, unles you make a MAJOR mistake, like plug in WAY too much power... or decide to clean it with lead-acid.... Between "mods" make sure what you are working on still works. Just make sure no stray wires or metal crap touches the boards.
