Add RGB-in to older TV?

I'm thinking about modfiying an older TV I have. It's an old RCA TV from 84 or 85. Anyway, this TV only has a coaxial connector, and those screw connectors, it doesn't even have composite. I want to add both composite and RGB inputs to it. I know on pocket TVs you simply need to find the chroma decoder chip and find the appropriate lines to connect to, and I was just wondering if it would be that simple for a CRT.
Also, is it very hard to discharge a CRT, so it's safe to work on/around?
I just thought I'd ask incase someone here knows about this kind of stuff.

well the video dose to be converted to the indivisual siginels to display on the screen so it should be consivabley possiple

you can use a screw driver or outher tool (with wire attached to it from ground) to discharge a CRT though if not carefull it could probuley kill you make sure to use a rubberized handle

(not telling you everything you need to know read up on it its very important that you do)
(also bo not belive it would be nessasery to dissasemble the TV that far but not sure)

dude go spend $50, go to goodwill or something and buy a tv thats newer than that....it'll be so much better....heck some times you can get a 19"er for $75 brand new

be very careful discharging it. CRTs have 1000s of volts so be careful

buy a new tele, the picture isn't so good on some of them because of their age and the colour grid, I have a great 12" Portable Tele, and it only cost Â£180, thats with Video and DVD Player built in!

yeh it not realy worth the risk dont do it Ive discharged one to fix a moniter before though I did not trust it and wore rubber gloves

Well, I don't really want to buy a new TV right now. When I do, I'll probably just give in and get an HDTV. Besides, TVs that have RGB connectors are very rare in the US. And the funny thing is, even though its so old, this TV actually has better quality than our other TV, which is like 10 years newer.

RGB would obviously enhance the quality even further. So I just might try it sometime. I'll have to look into all the details, first.

Go for it just be careful discharging it I would wear a good pair of boots with good rubber soles and rubber gloves though. And just becuase its an old tv doesent mean it has a bad picture Ive seen some old monitors that are perfect for gaming The colors are crisp and vibrant you wouldnt even think they were that old.

Put the metal thing on the end of a broomstick, wear a few pairs of socks, rubber boots and rubber gloves, stand on a styrofoam block, and have really heavy-guage wire connecting the metal screwdriver or whatever to a tent stake placed DIRECTLY in the earth. But that's just my paranoid suggestion.

i've got 20-ty year old samsung (21' or like that) and i was quite suprised when metroid echoes worked on it (it uses 60hz refresh rate).

my tv is worth around $50.

i've got a ~30 year old 60" TV that the refresh rate is too slow for most DVDs and it works fine for videogames
