custom power source

i want to make a really small, simple and quiet computer.

but unfortuantly the limiting factor is the power source. the psu is big, noisy and uneccessary. i only need to power the mobo and a hard drive.

so id like to build a custom psu that only has one molex, and is silent.

i have several questions:

are molex connectors 12v?

are all the 20pins on the mobo power connector neccessary?

is a fan really neccessary if im only running enough power for the mbob and hard drive?

that depends on how powerful it is. if you have no fans, use big heatsinks and good ventilation

yeh, but am i even goign to need that? im not goign to feeding a lot of power, so can i just run it through a normal external transformer.

if your using an external transformer you shouldn't have a problem with heat

yeah, buy a fanless 12V mini itx psu

to be hoenst id rather not buy one if i can make one myself.

i have an old psu i can hack apart.

i just need to nkow how how to wire up the mobo connector.
