How do I take a screen shot from a Video file. Every thing I try just gives me a black picture where the video is suposed to be

Press "printscreen" then go into MS paint and select paste. That should work.

It worked when I was watching a DVD. Why wouldnt it work?

os doesn't matter, it's your dvd software that's garbage. Get something that doesn't care that you're copying copywritten material and both printscreen and it's own built in capture will work.

I used something called PowerDVD by cyberlink
It was either free, or easy to steal--I can't remember which.

that doesn't matter to the people who write the software so that it can't, in any way grab screens. All they care about is limiting their liability--which is good business. Afterall, they have no way of knowing really what they're playing with so many bootlegs around, so they killed the feature totally.

But trust me, Cyberlink PowerDVD will do it.
It's a real lifesaver. (rocky horror outfit/don't ask)

it's even got its own 'capture frame' button.

it's the little camera icon, second from the left on the control bar. The "c" key also does it

my version is 4.0
