I hate to kill your buzz and be the accuracy snob, but the jaguar AVP was a somewhat creative FPS, where the arcade was just another capcom, side-scrolling, beat'em up, correct?

Soo how much does a neo geo arcade machine with all the metal slugs (1,2,3,4,5,6, and X) and all the samurai spirits and showdowns cost?

MVS machines really aren't expensive, (mine was $220 w/game) and you can get many games for less than the cost of a current, high-profile console game. Now AES Games...THOSE are the expensive ones... But in direct response to your question, probably about $800 (except for metal slug 6, which runs on Sammy Atomiswave hardware)

MVS emulation is fun, but the control is generally a little off... Since it's finally dead, I can wait about 5 years for the prices to finish dropping and go wild buying MVS games. They should all be $10-20 then.

they were identical in terms of power.

The AES games are actually FAR more expensive than MVS games--I'm guessing because there were far fewer made, and they came with the whole collectable cases and such. For a couple hundred bucks (not totally sure on current going rate) you can get an adaptor to play MVS games on your AES.

Atomiswave isn't really a good option for home arcade gaming--it's naomi based, but less powerful with fewer games. And it costs about the same. I don't think I've ever really had the pleasure of playing an atomiswave, but naomi just looks like the correct choice when it comes time to upgrade my cabinet.

I don't follow snk development as closely as I probably could, but my guess is that the new metal slug follows the same format as previous ones but features smoother, graphics with far less pixelation and *greatly* improved color. Those were really all that held neo-geo back. Still, I think Neo-Geo had the longest (company-supported) life of any video game system--it was just time to retire her.
