i don't have that charger, so i can't tell for sure when they're done, but see what the LEDs are doing when you just put in the batteries and wait. when they've been charging long enough, the LEDs will do something different

i don't think a charger like that can overcharge them. it's natural for charging batteries to get hot

they would probably leak, explode, or catch on fire. that won't happen because chargers like the one you have automatically stop when they are fully charged

They shouldn't. Are you sure that is a Ni-MH charger, not a Ni-Cd?

It has a switch that switches between charging Ni-Mh and Ni-CD, I believe.
