Is there any driver that will work in DOS (bootdisk) no matter what soundcard i have? I'm making a NES/SNES bootdisk (2 different discs) and I want to give it out to people, so i need one as close to universal as possible.
Also, I want to have it so when you start up with the disk, there's a menu that lets you choose which game you want to play EX:
Which game (pick number 1-5)?
1)game 1
2)game 2
3)game 3
4)game 4
5)game 5
The emu for NES is Loopynes, and the SNES one is ZSNES (there's one game on the SNES disk)
universal DOS soundcard driver?

Search for a DOS command named INPUT.COM for the menu. It lets you input a value such as 3, which will then load game 3. The games list has to be made in a text file, so your autorun ends up looking like:
The final code is slightly different. I know that MM007 used it, and 'm sure he would be willing to send it to you, and help you out.
Code: Select all
@echo off
write games-list.txt
INPUT Which game do you want to play(1-4)?
I have Input.com, and my autoexec.bat should look like this:
[/code]
Code: Select all
@ECHO OFF
cls
TYPE A:\menu.txt
INPUT Which game do you wish to run (1,2,3,4)? /b/8
IF %ANS%==4 GOTO FOUR
IF %ANS%==3 GOTO THREE
IF %ANS%==2 GOTO TWO
IF %ANS%==1 GOTO ONE
GOTO END
:FOUR
A:\nes.exe Super Mario Bros.nes
GOTO END
:THREE
A:\nes.exe NARC.nes
GOTO END
:TWO
A:\nes.exe megaman2.nes
GOTO END
:ONE
A:\nes.exe megaman1.nes
:END
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

menu.txt is what you change.
Also, the /b/8 is a truncation thing. That way you can set it to more than just 1,2,3,etc.
with /b/8 tags, you can actually type an 8 character name. that way, you can also set up your code so you type the 8 letter filename if you want your code to do that too. I set it up because 1,2,3,etc is easier on the user, but I left the 8 in there in case someone wanted to use filenames instead of numbers.
If you want the full 8.3 convention name to be typed in for the selection, put in /b/12 for "xxxxxxxx.nes".
Also, remember to change the filenames in the code that it points to as well, and make sure that the menu.txt and the code in autoexec.bat(or whatever .bat file you make) match up perfectly as to which number is which game.

Warranty-Voiding fun!
