I put dosbox in my computer yesterday, and had the idea to try putting in Windows 3.1, since, ummm, I'm not entirely sure why I did, other than for the reason that I could. The funny thing is, I'm glad I did. I've realized that it makes running programs in dosbox a lot quicker. Now I just gotta see if there's a way to mount the drives and stuff when I first start it up, then I'll be set

Also, for those that have used it, I have had a problem with my mouse. It works fine, but when I want to go from Windows to Linux, it doesn't escape

Wow, so I can run Windows 3.1 on Windows XP now... I'll try my copy of Windows 95 (maybe), but I don't like screwing things up (espically big problems that sometimes even I can't fix), so I'll leave it to you, where can I get a copy of Windows 3.1 anyway? And should I try Linux on DosBox

I'm actually looking for my Windows 95 CD, can't find it

I'll download one of those Linuxes and try that!

Thanks for reviving the only non-evil, stable version of Windows!

I've got an old Pentuim 2 300mhz Digital brand PC I got running with DOS, so I put 3.11 for Workgroups on it for comedic value. IT RUNS GREAT!

(Concidering the PC I'm using has 20x the minimum system requirements

)

I also ran accross the full set of floppies for MS Office 4, with PowerPoint 3, Word 6, and Excel 4. Now all I need is the Lotus suite, and acouple classic games I used way-back-when, Storybook Weaver and The Oregon Trail.

You can find tons of free software for Win 3.1, 95, and DOS at Home of the Underdogs

XP is stable but not as stable as the earlier one that was really just a GUI on top of DOS. I still have the issue of XP crashing everytime I try to watch a DVD, it still thinks I have a 56k modem card and wants to install a driver every boot up.

I can do literally anything on my PC and nothing crashes, both have Windows XP and one I'm thinking of a dual boot with Linux and Windows XP

Sorry for bringing up this old thread but I might try out Windows 95 on my PC under DosBox now I've found my old Windows 95 CD! Hover!

Yeah! I love Hover so much I copied it onto it's own ZIP disk a while back. 256 color 3D goodness!

I also have Windows95B and Windows 95 updrade on ZIP disks as well. take out all the extras and you have room for the full OS with all drivers. ^^

I have ODSbox running on a brand-new pC at school. I should install Windows 3.1 on it and run full-screen just to scare everybody!

Kind of like that time I switched around all the keyboard connectors. (the keyboards stayed in the same place, but I connected them to different PCs.

)

I have DOSBox on my xbox. I use it to play REAL old games for the original 8080 systems (the IBM 5050 and 5055). I just LOVE Castle and Chopper 2. Unfortunateally they were programmed back in the day when CPU cycles were used for timing, so if you dont play it at 4.75MHz it goes faster. Even on a 486 25Mhz machine running Mo-Slo (a program that eats up CPU cycles to slow the computer dwon for the older games) the games i play run WAY to fast, or will hiccup for a millisecond and you wind up getting killed.

I remember oregon trail. Never really had a PC to run it often enough to have fun.

I should install Win 3.11 just for the irony. Or win98...

I wish Xbox Linux supported the HDPack so i can actually USE it! Im in the process of making an RGB cable for my X and Verge Gamecube screen so i can do the linux thing from my 2nd xbox on my coffee table.
