well you can blame the Oil industry and the gas prices. Toys R Us needed to pay shipping charges for thier merchandise to they raised the price to turn a profit, it is simple business.

oh, don't get me started on the oil companies (mods - if this gets too politicy, you can delete it, but I don't think this is too bad since it's more corporation hate than governmental hate)

let good ol' spongey tell you all a story for a minute, gather 'round, a little closer... not too close... gamelver! stop hugging *o*! :P

now then, the story goes as follows, and is true to the best of my knowledge (I trust the person that told me, and he heard it first hand)

My great-uncle has a friend. This guy has done quite a lot mechanically, especially with welding and stuff like that. For example, he built a big scale model John Deere tractor that really worked one time (I think that's what it was, but that's beside the point)

One day, this friend made a carburator for his car. Because of the way he made it (there was some trick to it, I wasn't told what, and I don't know much about cars to remember anyway) he was able to get phenomonally good milage out of it. I'm saying about 50 or 60 miles to the gallon in an average car! Thinking this friend may be on to something, he decides that he should try to patent it. When he does try to do it, it is already taken. The patent owner? The oil companies! :x Not only are these guys making us pay more for their fuel because they know we are dependent on it and will fix their prices accordingly, but they are preventing us from conserving it! They say that the reason prices are so high is that supply is getting low and demand is getting high, but they have complete power to fix that, yet they won't!

I've heard that story before sponge. I'm pretty sure it's just a myth. Theres no way that something like that could be kept out of the mainstream.

they actually do it, tire companies have also made a certain kind of tire that virtually doesnt wear out. but they wont make them, why? because they are still making loads of cash from the crap tires that wear out

Ok first this is the last item(s) I bought from Toys R Us were two super soakers about 3-4 years ago so I havent supported them recently.

As for Spongebuell. My local news did a story about a guy thats recently gotten into bio-Deisel. Well regualar is baout $2.20 at the pump he's making his for about $0.75. So you want a cheaper fuel, make it and use it in a deisel truck.

P.S. If you go to get a Dodge one the Cummings will add $5500 to the cost.

This is just economics really. If things never wore out or became outdated the economy wouldn't be able to support itself. Another example is the Volkswagon "Super Beetle" Basically a Beetle but unlike the original designed to break!

Or how about, I have an all aluminum exhaust/muffler on my car which of course has never rusted. So they put in a "weak link" that CAN break - an unnessecary "flex pipe"

It's also on the same token that war boosts as economy. When things get blown up, more things need to be built.

And what about Windows being a resource hog? I think this is to drive new processor sales, as the average person doing email, surfing and downloading porn really doesn't need anything faster than say a 500 mhz machine with Win 98. But if they put XP on their computer and it becoms a dog, they'll trade up.
