what the future holds for us?
us as portabilizers?
will we ever portabilise the new generation of consoles?
will we be able to find a large enough source of cheap parts and screens to sustain us?
what are your views on the future?

Ill be the first to portablize the REV with a emense suply of hipgear screens, then i'll probly make a Mac mod or two with a mini. but the ulitmate goal for me is to get more programers together on the GM6-DS project.... its going pritty well actualy just that we need some better math to beable to do a lot of object orientation.
I'd say for screens, the future is in our favor. LCDs are being cheaper and better every year. Not to mention that the LCDs that Ben has for the Pheniox were like $50-75 each not bad compared to he's typical screens.
The next generation... As its more and more evedent that gaming consoles are more like desktop computers its going to require more powerful batters and further hurt making them small and compact. I cant say for certian that it will be more difficalt then this generation but chances are they will be.
Parts, you may be right. You dont see that many electroics kits at radioshack anymore.
Other then just video game consoles I just want to do retro stuff. Like take a Mac Mini and put it into a Compact Mac case. Bring back the old style desktop case (keyboard and case are one, i.e. Apple II).

The future is looking brighter all the time.
like Sparkfist said lcds are getting better and cheaper. the consoles are getting smaller (*cough XBOX cough cough). wirless controlers arn't that bad, not only that you can plug the controlers into the USB ports (or so i've herd). The only problem is the higher power requierments...the way I see it is that a lot more people well switch to Li-Polys to keep the portables small and still get a lot of playtime.

stick the transmitters really close together I would guess....
I don't really care about portablizing any new systems, I just want to do the classics like NES, N64, PS1 etc. My idea is this: If it can't fit in a pants cargo pocket then don't bother portablizing it. Who wants to carry a big PS2P around in a black bag (man purse, lol) just to play it while you wait?
