making a lightsabre

Post by watermelon »

as much fun as it would be, i dont mean making a real one.

i was lookign around the other day and found this:
http://www.firebox.com/?dir=firebox&act ... ct&pid=995

it looks freaking cool, but costs a whopping £100. far too much for me to justify spending on a lightsabre toy.

i thought it would use some crazy light system, but it turns out it just has 64 super-bright LEDs. i dont reckon it would be that hard to make one on the cheap, but im not quite sure how to go about it.

what i dont get is how the light is so evenly spread along the "blade". surely if its just lit by individual leds the ares around the leds will be brighter than those away form them. not sure if i articulated that very well.

I got one of those lightsabers (actually, I got an extra one for free by a little mishap in Master Replica's exchange dpartment ;)) and it seems that there is some kind of diffusing material to spread the light....(that little mishap refers to when I dented my lightsaber, returned it, and got two returned to me :D....just don't mention this to Master Replicas :P!!!!!)

as for making one yourself, I don't think it'd be TOO hard, but if you want to have one that's the same quality as the force fx ones the you might as well buy a force fx one :P..
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

I got to try one of those out at books a million. They even have the same weight as you would expect! High quality stuff.

the original obi-wan lightsaber was made from a large shower faucet handle, a camping stove burner, some brass fittings, and a british hand grenade.
