The paint job was a pain! The third coat on the top case went on too thick and "wrinkled" so I had to sand off all the paint and start over. It ended up being a good thing though cause the case looked a lot better sanded :)

The pics don't really do the paint job justice, the fingerprints and dust really show when you use flash!

All those holes have something going in them. What's going there? Hehe  You'll see.

sadly my LCD cable broke so I have to save for a whole new one and put this project on a slight hold.

Looking good, I like the contrast between the silver and black.

The only problem I see is that the carts will be kinda wobbly and could freeze pretty easily :)

And its an upside-down L, which has its ups and downs, a kid could easily run buy and pull that thing out. But then again, you can use it as a square if you're in woodworking or construction.

Only if you bump it pretty hard. The black half pushes against the cart and holds it in place really well.

Since it will have built in games I won't even use a cart 90% of the time. I only put that on for Ninja Gaiden :D Man I love that game.

I am going to have two lever switches next to the where the cart plugs in (you can see the cut out for them) so that when you plug in a game it automatically disables the built in games! Pretty clever, eh?

hmm.. you know...
When you plug in a cart it should autoswitch normally. That's because there are 2 points on a cart that are connected, but on the noac they aren't connected. When a cart is plugged in the points are connected turning of the internal rom :)

Actually if you look at a Family Converter only one NES cart pin goes to the connections on the NOAC to switch from built in games to cart. That's why there is a trace on the converter leading from pin 31 on the NOAC to the +5V pin.
Correct me if I'm wrong, cause it sure would be great if I don't need those switches.

One other thing, you can't just have a switch for one pin, because the either pin leads to other connections that won't let the built in games run if they are connected. That's why I have two switches.

Then I'll correct you :)
On the family converter (if you have one) the famicom pin on the very right of the front (labelled family converter 60-72 pins) is connected to the one on the very right of the back.
When they're connected (at least on the 3 different types of NOACs I've used) the internal games are turned off

Yeah I know that, the trace connects the two pins and disables the games. What I was saying is that there is only one pin on the NES cart that connects to both pins. You can't have a switch with only one pin :? If there were two connecting pins you could, but theres only one.

we really need to set up a section of the forum for portable submissions. that way we can get stuff on to doomportables fast and easy! this was part of my idea for the megasite but would work just as well for doom. have 3 stickies in the submission area, one for designs and things like that, one for finished and pending portables, and one for links and guides, faqs and howtos. its just an idea but would make getting doomportables updated much faster and easier
