How long do you wait to purchase systems or games?
Personally, I try to wait at least a year (or the first price reduction). Every system I own with the exception of the Dreamcast, GBA, and GBA SP, has been purchased a year or more after the system's release.
When would you buy these systems? Here's my take:
PSP - $150-100.
DS - $100-50
PS3 - $200-150
X-Box - Still don't have one, don't see anything there I can't get elsewhere. I might get one at $50-25, but not too sure on that one. Still gotta get games.
X-Box 360 - I'll reserve judgement on this one. See if any exclusive titles make me want to get one.
Revolution - $250-200. Love the idea of emulating every Nintendo Home Console.
If some killer app comes out for one of those, I'd go higher. What about you?

I only bought my PS2 2 years after it came out.
(Give Sony some time to work out bugs, they had to patch the DVD player software to get it to work with the remote on the oldest units.)
I only bought my PSX in '97.
The longest I waited to get a system was 14 years. (bought a Genesis in '03.)

I wait until some kind of modchip or development stuff comes out for the console. I dont care much for the new games today, but I love developing stuff for the consoles. So far Dreamcast and Xbox have to be my favorites. Its usually a year or 2 until things start to take off though. Gamecube is just getting a mod, and a new HDD addon and its been out for a while...

I usually wait for the system to be < $200 before I get it. I have freinds who have the others, so I just play there untill I get it.

For portables like the ds and gba sp i usualy get them shortly after there release i havent got the psp yet becuase i thnk they will make an improved version soon that i will get. I usualy wait like 2 or 3 years to get systems but now that im older and have my own money i might get them shortly after they come out.
I usually get my consoles and games on the day they launch. You might be paying a bigger price, but if you think about it, getting a console on release day gives you 5 years to enjoy it. So, for me, that kind of off-sets the high initial price. I always feel like I get my money's worth.

Life is a lot like a video game without the extra lives and continues.
